A Novena to Mother Mary: Seeking Her Loving Intercession

When life feels heavy, many turn to the Mother of Jesus — not as a replacement for God, but as a loving intercessor who carries our prayers before her Son. A novena, prayed over nine days, is a time of focused devotion that opens our hearts to grace, peace, and renewed faith.

This novena to Mother Mary is written from the heart — for families, for children, for healing, for those in desperate need of hope. Each day, we reflect on a truth of Mary’s life and ask her to intercede for us with tenderness and love.

How to Pray This Novena

  • Begin with the Sign of the Cross.
  • Read the Scripture verse of the day.
  • Pause with the reflection.
  • Pray the Daily Prayer to Mary (repeated each day).
  • Add the intention of the day.
  • End with the Hail Mary (3 times).

Daily Prayer to Mary (repeat every day)

Mother of Mercy, we come before you in our weakness and need. Carry our prayers to your Son, Jesus, and help us to trust in His love. Intercede for our children, our families, our friends, and our neighbors. Protect us from despair and guide us into peace. Amen.

Day 1 – Faith & Trust

  • Scripture: “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her.” (Luke 1:45)
  • Reflection: Mary trusted God completely, even without knowing the full plan. Today, we ask for that same faith in our trials.
  • Intention: Lord, increase my trust in You when fear and doubt surround me.

Day 2 – Healing & Comfort

  • Scripture: “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness.” (Isaiah 61:1)
  • Reflection: Mary’s heart is tender toward our wounds. She draws us closer to the healing love of Jesus.
  • Intention: Mother Mary, intercede for those who are sick in body, mind, or spirit.

Day 3 – Family & Protection

  • Scripture: “His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever He tells you.’” (John 2:5)
  • Reflection: Mary protects families, just as she watched over Jesus. She desires peace and unity within our homes.
  • Intention: Guard our families from division, harm, and despair. Surround us with your maternal care.

Day 4 – Strength in Trials

  • Scripture: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.” (Psalm 28:7)
  • Reflection: Mary stood at the foot of the Cross. She knows what it is to suffer yet remain faithful.
  • Intention: Grant me courage to endure my struggles, and strength to stand firm in faith.

Day 5 – Peace for the Soul

  • Scripture: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” (John 14:27)
  • Reflection: In Mary’s presence, we find calm and comfort. She leads us into the peace of Christ.
  • Intention: Mary, bring peace to my restless heart and to all who live in anxiety.

Day 6 – Forgiveness & Mercy

  • Scripture: “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)
  • Reflection: Mary reflects the mercy of God. She teaches us to forgive as we have been forgiven.
  • Intention: Mother, help me forgive those who have hurt me and seek forgiveness from those I have wounded.

Day 7 – Guidance & Wisdom

  • Scripture: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
  • Reflection: Just as Mary guided the servants at Cana, she guides us toward Jesus with gentle wisdom.
  • Intention: Show me the way forward when I am lost or confused.

Day 8 – Gratitude & Praise

  • Scripture: “My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” (Luke 1:46–47)
  • Reflection: Mary’s heart overflowed with gratitude. Even in hardship, she praised the Lord.
  • Intention: Mary, teach me to thank God in all circumstances and to see His blessings.

Day 9 – Hope & Victory

  • Scripture: “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” (Revelation 12:1)
  • Reflection: Mary reminds us that victory belongs to God. Where there is despair, she points us to hope.
  • Intention: Fill my heart with hope, and help me to trust in the final victory of Christ.

Closing Prayer (after Day 9)

Blessed Mother, you never abandon those who call upon you. With faith and love, I entrust my needs, my loved ones, and my future into your hands. Carry my prayers to your Son, Jesus, and obtain for me the graces I most need. Amen.

Final Note
This novena is not about perfect words but about a sincere heart. Pray it with love, and trust that every whisper is heard in heaven. Mary intercedes not because she is God, but because she is a mother — and mothers never stop caring for their children.
