Alaska in Crisis: Typhoon Halong’s Devastating Floods — What We Know & How You Can Help

Something biblical is happening in Alaska’s western coast right now.Homes torn from foundations. Entire villages swamped. Families scrambling in darkness. Many haven’t heard — the mainstream media hasn’t fully covered it.But we must. Because when one of God’s children is hurting, we all feel the echo.

What Is Happening Right Now

The remnants of Typhoon Halong (2025) moved into Alaska as an extratropical cyclone, bringing hurricane-force winds and massive storm surges to western and coastal communities.

Coastal towns like Kipnuk and Kwigillingok were hardest hit. In Kipnuk, water levels reached 6.6 ft above normal high tide, nearly two feet higher than previous records.

Numerous homes were swept off their foundations and floated away while families were inside.

At least 51 people have been rescued so far — many from rooftops.

Tragically, one woman is confirmed dead, and two others remain missing in Kwigillingok.Around 1,400 displaced persons are sheltering in community facilities.

The storm impacted 49 communities across the region.

Infrastructure damage includes cracked runways, snapped utility poles, flooded roads, and ruined food storage — critical in a region already vulnerable as winter approaches.

“This took homes off of foundations … people were swimming, floating, trying to find debris to hold onto in the cover of darkness.”— Capt. Christopher Culpepper, U.S. Coast Guard

Who Is Responding

Governor Dunleavy has declared a disaster emergency.

U.S. Coast Guard and Alaska National Guard have deployed rescue aircraft and boats.

State Troopers are aiding search and rescue.

Red Cross, Samaritan’s Purse, World Central Kitchen, and Salvation Army are providing relief.

Local tribal councils are leading evacuations and food distribution efforts.

The Ongoing Risk

Many communities can only be reached by air or water, slowing emergency aid.

With winter approaching, fuel, food, and heating shortages could become life-threatening.

Families who depend on preserved food lost their freezers in the flooding.
