A Prayer for the Lost: Honoring the Victims of the Camp Mystic Flood

On July 5, 2025, tragedy struck Central Texas as a sudden and catastrophic flood swept through Kerr County, claiming over 100 lives. Among them were 27 young girls from Camp Mystic, a cherished summer retreat in the heart of the hill country. Ten more remain missing, alongside a counselor, as rescue teams continue their urgent search.

We do not simply read these numbers—we feel them. We see the faces. We imagine the dreams that were cut short. And we ache for the parents who will never again tuck their daughters in at night.

Today, we join Father Rich Vitale (@fatherrichv on TikTok) in lifting a solemn prayer to Heaven for the repose of every soul lost—and especially for the children who perished so suddenly, so unfairly.

🕊️ A Prayer for the Lost

Heavenly Father,

In this moment of sorrow, we come before You with broken hearts. The waters of Central Texas rose swiftly and without warning, sweeping away the innocent and the unprepared. We name them now before You, not only in numbers but in spirit: the 27 young girls from Camp Mystic, still radiant in Your eyes, and the many others—over 100 souls—whose earthly journeys came to a sudden end.

We ask that You:

  • Receive them into Your eternal embrace.
  • Hold their families in the shelter of Your wings.
  • Bring comfort to communities left shaken and searching for answers.
  • Strengthen the arms and hearts of those who continue to search.

Lord, we lift these children to You, each one with a life story that barely had the chance to begin. Let them dance in Your fields of light. Let them be free from pain, from fear, from the rushing flood.

For the 10 still missing, and the counselor with them—we ask for miracles. Let them be found. Let there be reunion, or if not, let there be peace.

And for those of us who watch from afar, stir our spirits to act—not in fear, but in love.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
